Barcelona have slammed the door shut on Manchester City’s attempts to prise Jules Kounde away, with the Frenchman signing a mammoth new contract tying him to the Catalan giants until 2030. The defender’s previous deal was set to run until 2027, but months of negotiations finally ended with a fresh agreement that cements his future at the Camp Nou.

  Guardiola had earmarked Kounde as a priority target after shelving plans to sign Newcastle star Tino Livramento. But City’s interest has now been dealt a knockout blow, as the 26-year-old has been handed fresh terms in Spain.

  "I'm very happy here, I feel comfortable in the team and I'm very motivated by the club's ambition," he told reporters earlier this month. "Every year we fight for all the titles and I have no intention of leaving."

Initially deployed as a central defender, he was quickly shifted to right-back by then-coach Xavi Hernandez, a move that has defined his role at the club ever since.
